Maria was born on November 20, 1977 in Baltimore, Maryland. Maria's parents came from the Greek island of Chios, and settled in Baltimore’s “Greek Town. From an early age, it was evident that Maria was a talented singer and performer. She took part in her first talent show at the age of 13. The following year she joined the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Choir, where she became lead soprano and continues to be so today. Besides chanting the Byzantine-style music in the choir, Maria also sings traditional and modern Greek as well as American-style music.

While performing at a church benefit dance, she met her husband Tony (bouzouki player of Apollonia) at the age of 17. They got married in 1997 and have been performing together ever since for numerous parties, festivals, weddings and christenings. Among the most memorable events are the Bahamas Annual Ball, the AHEPA National Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, and other affairs in Houston, Texas, Clearwater, Florida, and North Carolina.

In 2002, Maria recorded an original CD, Tosi Monaxia, with George Pilianides, a song writer who has written hits for several top singers in Greece.

June 2003 brought the birth of two beautiful twin girls. Maria decided to take a break from performing in order to spend more time with her growing family. With some prodding from her husband Tony, Maria decided to cut her hiatus short and form Apollonia.
